5月10日、さて、仕事をしようかとPCを立ち上げ、Twitterを流し読みしていたらショッキングな記事に目が留まった。
アメリカを代表する偉大なアーティストFrank Kozikさんが他界した・・・
On May 10, I started up my computer to get ready for work and was skimming through Twitter when a shocking article caught my eye.
Frank Kozik, one of America’s greatest artists, had passed away…
私が初めてKOZIKさんと対面したのは、2005年3月、香港でのイベントの時でした。
あの時の私はようやくナックルベアのソフビが出て飛ぶように売れたので、
次回作としてHELLHOUNDSをだす手前くらいのまだまだARTTOY業界では駆け出しな私でしたが
見た目がとても近寄りがたく、威厳をまとっているKOZIKさんは、まだ、本の実績しかない私に対してとてもやさしく
あの当時ほぼ英語が話せない状態で、単語を羅列して必死で話したのを覚えていますが、そんなつたない英語力の私でも
とてもやさしくゆっくりとお話をしてくれたのを未だに覚えています。
その時話してくれたのが、自分はスペイン生まれで、アメリカの軍に従事してアメリカ国籍を取ってアメリカにいるという話を未だに鮮明に覚えています。
I first met KOZIK at an event in Hong Kong in March 2005.
At that time, I was just starting out in the ARTTOY industry, just before the release of my next soft vinyl, Knucklebear, which sold like hotcakes,
I was still a novice in the ARTTOY industry, just before the release of my next work, HELLHOUNDS.
Mr. KOZIK, who looked very unapproachable and dignified, was very kind to me, who only had a book to my credit.
I remember I couldn’t speak English at that time and I was struggling to speak with a list of words.
I still remember that he spoke to me very gently and slowly.
I still vividly remember him telling me that he was born in Spain, served in the U.S. military, and became a U.S. citizen.
↑香港のスタッフさんが写真を撮影してくれることになったときに、私の食べ物を横取りしようとしてたのを激写（ちゃめっけたっぷりでわざとやってた）
そのあと、ちゃんとKOZIKさんの睨みを効かせた表情でも撮影してくれた思い出。
そして、ミニ色紙にサインを描いて欲しいと手渡したら、今は忙しいからといって自室に持ち帰り、
翌朝とんでもなく描きこまれたミニ色紙をプレゼントしてくれた本当に心優しい私にとってはARTTOY業界の父親的な方でした。
After that, I remember that he also took a picture of me with a proper KOZIK staring expression on his face.
And when I handed him a miniature colored paper asking him to draw my signature on it, he took it back to his room because he was busy at the moment,
He was like a father figure in the ARTTOY industry to me, who was really kind-hearted and gave me a ridiculously well-drawn miniature colored paper as a gift the next morning.
KOZIKさんが日本へ来日されたときに会いに行ったり、
アメリカのイベントの時にいらっしゃったら必ずお会いしてたのですが、
I always met Mr. KOZIK when he came to Japan or when he visited us at events in the U.S.A,
去年のDCONの時は挨拶するのを忘れてしまって・・・とてもとても心残りになりました。
確か、DCONがパサデナで開催された最後の年に、サンフランシスコのKOZIKさんのアトリエの下の階がギャラリーだから
TOUMA、個展やってくれ！って言われて躊躇した時の俺のバカ！
KOZIKさんは、アメリカのポスター業界の理事だったか、をやられていたり、様々なミュージシャンのジャケットなどのお仕事をされ
（Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Melvins, The Offspring, Butthole Surfers, and Helmet.）
ARTTOY業界でも様々な功績を残し、色々なアーティストに影響を与えて業界を活性化させてくれて、
近年はKIDROBOTさんのアートディレクターとしても活躍されていました。
本当に本当に今までありがとうございました。
天国からARTTOY業界の生末を見守ってください。

I forgot to say hello at last year’s DCON…I was very, very sorry.
As I recall, the last year DCON was held in Pasadena, the lower floor of KOZIK’s studio in San Francisco is a gallery.
TOUMA, do a solo exhibition! I was a fool when I hesitated when I was asked to do it!
KOZIK is a board member of the poster industry in the U.S.A., and has worked on various musicians’ jackets (Nirvana, Pearl, etc.), and has also been a member of the board of directors of the American Poster Industry.
(Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Melvins, The Offspring, Butthole Surfers, and Helmet.)
He has made various achievements in the arttoy industry and has influenced many artists to revitalize the industry,
In recent years, he also worked as an art director for Kidrobot.
